Some horse facts and trivia...

     The Arabian horse breed has 17 ribs, 5 lumbar vertebrae, and 16 tail bones. Other horse breeds have 18   ribs, 6 lumbar vertebrae, and 18 tail bones.

     Horse breeds are divided into three blood types: hotblood, warmblood, and coldblood. Most modern horse breeds are warmbloods.

    The tallest documented horse was a Shire gelding called ‘Sampson’. At four years old Sampson measured 21.2 HH and he weighed 3360 lb.

     An adult male horse has 40 teeth and an adult female horse has 36 teeth.

    ‘Revenge’ is the oldest horse to win a race. He was 18 years old and ran the race in Shrewsbury England in 1790.

   Mounted horsemen first competed in the Olympic Games in 648 BC.

    The first English Thoroughbred to be brought into America was in 1730. His name was Bulle Rock.
