The Hanoverian horse originates in
Germany.
Blood Type:
The Hanoverian is in the warmblood group.
History: In
the 1700’s the purpose of the development of the original Hanoverian
horse was to offer stallions at nominal fees for the people to breed
horses suitable for carriage work, farm work, and riding. In the 1800’s
the breed became more refined when the Thoroughbred was imported and bred
to the old-style Hanoverians. The breed became too light to do farm work
and before the Second World War efforts to increase the frame of the
breed took place.

After the war
there was need for a lighter horse again, and again there were infusions
of Thoroughbred and Trakehner blood.
Height: The
Hanoverian horse is approximately 16.2HH.
Colors: A
Hanoverian horse can be any solid color.
Description:
The Hanoverian has a medium sized head
well-set on a long, fine neck; a deep chest, pronounced withers and
sloping shoulders; a strong, deep body with muscular hindquarters; and
the tail is set-on nicely. They move freely and with excellent balance.
The Hanoverian horse has a natural presence and elegance.

Uses: Now
the Hanoverian is an excellent horse
for competitive dressage and jumping. They are often used to improve
other breeds.
