Gelderlander Horse Breed 

Country of Origin: The Gelderlander horse breed was developed in the Gelderlander province of the Netherlands. 

Blood Type: The Gelderlander horse is in the warmblood group. 

History: The Gelderlander horse breed is just over 100 years old. The people needed a horse that could do farm work and that was light enough to be a good riding horse. Andalusian, Norfolk Roadster, Neapolitan, Norman, Arab, Anglo-Arab, Furioso, Holstein, Orlov, Thoroughbred, Hackney, and Oldenburgh blood was added to the native stock. A fixed type that was suitable for the people did develop and became known as Gelderlander.

 

 

 

The breed has played an important part in the development of the Dutch Warmblood.

Height: The Gelderlander horse stands approximately 15.2HH to 16.2HH. 

Colors: Most of the Gelderlander horses are chestnut in color. There are some bays and some grays. 

Description: The Gelderlander has a plain head, often with a convex profile; strong neck and good shoulders; low withers with and a long, but strong body; powerful hindquarters and short, strong legs. The tail carriage is quite high.

Uses: The Gelderlander horse is talented, medium weight carriage horse with stamina and strength.
