History:
The Belgium Brabant is a very old breed and can be traced to the
prehistoric horses of the alluvial period. It is likely related to the Ardennes.
The
Brabant was known as the Flanders
horse during the Middle Ages and played a major role in the development
of other heavy horse breeds such as the Shire, Suffolk Punch, and the Clydesdale.

A studbook began
in 1855 in Belgium and in 1887
in America. Today the Belgium Brabant in America has changed to a more
refined and stylish type draft horse

average height of the Brabant is 15.3HH to 17HH.
Colors: The
Brabant is traditionally
chestnut or red roan in color.
Description:
The Brabant is one of the heaviest
draft horses. They have a small head and a thick neck; huge, powerful
shoulders and hindquarters; short legs with a small amount of feathering
around the fetlocks. The Brabant
has short legs and a short, choppy stride which is excellent for pulling
heavy loads.
