Hanoverian Horse Breed

Country of Origin: The Hanoverian horse originates in Germany.

Blood Type: The Hanoverian is in the warmblood group.

History: In the 1700’s the purpose of the development of the original Hanoverian horse was to offer stallions at nominal fees for the people to breed horses suitable for carriage work, farm work, and riding. In the 1800’s the breed became more refined when the Thoroughbred was imported and bred to the old-style Hanoverians. The breed became too light to do farm work and before the Second World War efforts to increase the frame of the breed took place.

After the war there was need for a lighter horse again, and again there were infusions of Thoroughbred and Trakehner blood.

Height: The Hanoverian horse is approximately 16.2HH.

Colors: A Hanoverian horse can be any solid color.

Description: The Hanoverian has a medium sized head well-set on a long, fine neck; a deep chest, pronounced withers and sloping shoulders; a strong, deep body with muscular hindquarters; and the tail is set-on nicely. They move freely and with excellent balance. The Hanoverian horse has a natural presence and elegance.
