Country of Origin: The Tosa Inu
originated in Japan

Description: The Tosa Inu is a
massive stately dog with wrinkly skin, especially around the
neck. Tosa Inus have powerful jaws with drooping muzzles and
big black noses.
Colors: Tosa Inus come in solid
red, black, yellow, black & tan, fawn, brindle and
multi-colored.

Coat: Tosa Inus require
occasional brushing to keep their coats looking good. They
are average shedders.
Temperament: Primarily used as a
guard dog, the Tosa Inu has been outlawed from England and
is only recommended to firm and experienced trainers. Tosa
Inus should be kept away from other dogs because if they are
to fight, the Tosa will be the winner. This quiet breed is
good towards its family and strangers if properly introduced
but should not be left alone with children unsupervised.
Health Concerns: Both
parents should have the following certificates: CERF (eyes)
and OFA (hips and elbows). They are also prone to bloat.

Life Expectancy: The life
expectancy of the Tosa Inu is about 10-12 years.
Living Environment: Tosa Innus
require space for exercise. They should not be left in
kennels as they start to miss their owners. Tosa Inus make
good jogging companions and if left alone in a yard they can
take care of their own exercise needs. |
