Country of Origin: The Rat Terrier originated in England.

Height: The Rat Terrier comes in three different sizes. Standard: Height 14-23 inches (35½-58½ cm.) Mid-sized: Height 8-14 inches (20-35½ cm.) Toy-Height: 8 inches (20 cm.)

Weight: Weight 12-35 pounds (5½-16 kg.) Mid-sized: Weight 6-8 pounds (3-3½ kg.) Toy-Weight: 4-6 pounds (2-3 kg.)

Description: Compact muscular dogs with strong legs and shoulders but with tiny heads, Rat Terriers are born with long or short tails which .

Colors: Rat Terriers come in various color combinations including red and white, tri-spotted, solid red, black & tan, blue & white and red brindle.

Coat: The Rat Terrier's short smooth coat is easy to groom.

Temperament: Rat Terriers are spunky and lively and require lots of exercise. They can also be quite vocal during playtime. Good with children and the elderly, Rat Terriers make excellent watchdogs.

Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of the Rat Terrier is about 15-18 years.

Living Environment: Rat Terriers will do okay living in an apartment. However they are active dogs and require plenty of exercise. They love to dig and will dig themselves out of a fenced yard.
