The Presa Canario Dog Breed

Country of Origin: The Presa Canario originated in the Canary Islands.

Height: 22.5 - 26" (57.2 - 66cm)

Weight: 88 - 125 lbs (39.3 - 55.8 kg)

Description: Also known as the canary dog the Presa canario is an extremely powerful dog with a strong muscular body. The powerful looking head is as wide as it is long. The nose and mask is black. The neck is broad, powerful and truncated. Some loose skin on the underside is typical.

 

 

 

Colors: Black, fawn, red-brindle, black-brindle

Coat: The Presa Canario has a smooth coat that requires regular brushing. This breed is an average shedder.

Temperament: An excellent guard dog, the Presa Canario is distrustful of both strangers and other dogs, including his own breed. This breed is extremely loyal to its family and will not hesitate to attack anyone it perceives as a threat.

Health Concerns: Hip dysplasia can be a problem, so make sure breeding stock has been OFA certified.

Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of the Presa Canario is about 9-11 years

Living Environment: The Presa canario does best in warm climates and can do well in an urban environment. This breed requires daily exercise.
