originated in England.

Description: Old English Sheepdogs have a shaggy
fluffy coat with a warmer undercoat. They are born tailless
or have the tail amputated at a young age. Old English
Sheepdogs have an unusual top line, which rises up from the
withers to the loin. This breed can either have brown or
blue eyes or one of each. The Old English Sheepdog is in the
Herding group.

Coat: The Old English Sheepdog's
profuse shaggy coat should be brushed regularly to prevent
matting and tangling. Since their coat can make them
overheat in the warmer months, clipping it for the
summertime is recommended. Old English Sheepdogs are heavy
shedders and do most of their shedding from April to May.
Temperament: Old English Sheepdogs were originally
used as herding dogs but nowadays make sweet-tempered family
pets. They are sometimes couch potatoes but love nothing
more than to play with children. Described as lovable teddy
bears Old English Sheepdogs make excellent family pets and
may even try to herd children by gently bumping them. Old
English Sheepdogs are protective, alert, faithful and
gentle. |

Health Concerns: Old English Sheepdogs are prone
to hip dysplasia and cataracts.
Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of the Old
English Sheepdog is about 10-12 years.
Living Environment: Old English Sheepdogs love to
play and run and require at least a medium sized yard for
exercise.
