Country of Origin: The Chinese Crested dog
originated in Africa.
Height: 12 inches (30cm.)
Weight: not over 10 pounds (4.5kg)
Description: The Chinese Crested dog is unusual
looking and comes in two varieties, the first is 'the
hairless' which is almost completely hairless except for a
crest of fur on its head, a tuft on its tale called a plume
and fur around his feet known as 'socks'. The second is
powder-puff which has long silky hair. The Chinese Crested
is in the Toy group.
Colors: Both the hairless and the powder-puff
Chinese crested come in a variety of colors including solid
and spotted.
Coat: The hairless variety is excellent for
allergy sufferers, and requires nothing but a little lotion
or massage |
oil to keep its skin smooth and supple. The
Chinese Crested powder-puff requires daily brushing. Neither
of the Chinese Crested breeds have a doggy odor.
Temperament: Chinese crested dogs are
exceptionally friendly. They love hugs and constantly crave
human companionship. Chinese crested are intelligent and can
perform tricks. This breed should not be babied in order to
ensure it grows up to be well adjusted. Chinese Cresteds
love to play with children, they do not bark but they like
to dig and climb.
Health Concerns: The hairless Chinese crested is
allergic to lanolin and wool. It should also be protected by
sunscreen when outside. The hairless variety is also prone
to losing teeth. These problems do not occur in the
powder-puff Chinese crested variety. |

Life Expectancy: The life expectancy of the
Chinese Crested is about 10-12 years.
Living Environment: Chinese Cresteds make
excellent apartment dogs and like to play indoors. They do
however enjoy brisk walks.
